Black Lives Matter
Your Magic Makes A Difference *:・゚✧
If you're an email subscriber here, I know you're already doing your bit to re-educate, donate, protest, and raise awareness for Black Lives, here in the US or abroad. (And if you're not interested in freedom for all, feel free to unsubscribe to my mailing list now.) The systemic injustice, police violence, and prison industrial complex has had its day.
I wanted to send this email to offer some spiritual support as well as signal boost the organisations that need us right now. If you have anything to spare, hit up Black Lives Matter, Black Visions Collective, Reclaim The Block, ACLU, National Bail Out, NAACP, Sisters Inside, the David Dungay fund, and others you see needing it.
Aside from protesting, donating, and amplifying—speaking to your loved ones as a non-black person is a hugely important step. As I said on IG recently, talk to the people in your life. Not just the ones that already agree with you. As Gary Foley (a legendary Gumbaynggirr activist and academic in so-called Australia) says, the battle begins at home.
Would you be willing to say what you say on social media around the dinner table/Zoom next holidays? Or would you be afraid you’d “ruin” it by rocking the boat? Are you so invested in social change that you’d risk causing arguments or rifts with the people you love who are unwilling to step out of their ignorance? Because along with the most obvious—reparations/paying the rent and demanding more of your leaders—that might just be the bare minimum.
You might have already seen on my Instagram, but I skipped doing a Tarot Card of the Week yesterday. It didn't feel right in my bones. That said, I've been doing a lot of reflecting about the months ahead and what insight tarot might help us glean. I wanted to share a little of that here with you. <333
Tarot is a living language. It’s a mirror of our frequencies as individuals as well as communities. In numerology, June 2020’s frequency is the Wheel of Fortune—a holy vision guarding the midway point in the Fools Journey. For the first time in the tarot, we see patterns. Connections. A grand and unknowable unfolding. A law amid what seems to be chaos. An expansion from “me” to WE.
In the Wheel of Fortune we see that all is cycles—of time, of seasons, of energy, of dualities, of power. Ebbs and flows. Ups and downs. The rise and fall of empires. Karma. The wheel teaches us to honour that fact that these cycles of change are the only constant. Uncomfortable as that is for those of us deluded enough to think we’d be on top forever.
In the wheel we can choose to see just how much is out of our control. But we also choose to see just how far our reverberations can really stretch. Like the butterfly flapping its wings, both our actions and our inaction have huge and unknowable impacts for the future. We can’t view the complete bigger picture right now—that’s for our descendants to see. All we can do is our best, with the glimpses and hints we’re given.
MLK said “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” That doesn’t mean it’s a given, however. I believe it means our thoughts and actions ~now~ determine the quality of that arch. It only bends with pressure. With a loving, firm demand for justice. And since impermanence is all there is, the time for that demand is always now.
I’ve made a playlist interpreting the Wheel of Fortune’s frequency in the hope that it helps nourish, inspire, and empower you—mind, body, and spirit—amid the great upheaval and potential we find ourselves in the centre of.
I’m also doing a TAROT-THON from Sep 11—13th. Any readings booked on these days will have 100% of their proceeds donated to the National Bailout Fund (USA) and Sister’s Inside Free Her campaign (AUS). Get in quick! The full amount will be sent off in service to the abolition of the racist, murderest prison industrial complex.
Look after each other. Stand firm. Stay safe. Lean on your self-care practices. May the arch ever bend. 🖤
